Ideation was driven by a simple silhouette, laceless fit story, and weatherized functionality. Onyx features a versatile all-black color way and over-lasted forefoot, where the leather shroud wraps the midsole.
Ultra-marathoners customize their running shoes to allow for mid-foot expansion, increased breathability, and to reduce blisters forming over long distances.
Inspired by the way ultra-marathoners customize their shoes, I realized that if enough material is removed, the shoe becomes a sandal.
Not only does removing material reduce the shoes weight, but it also increases breathability.
The final sandal runner features an interior monofilament sock and 4mm EVA Shell upper construction that wraps the EVA foam outsole. The midsole design intuitively inspires mid-foot striking when running.
